GUARDIAN HOMES

WHAT IS A GUARDIAN HOME

At WestPenn Doodles we believe that every dog deserves to live their life loved in a home. We believe that each dog should live as part of the family right from the moment they are born to the day they pass on. We believe that our breeding dogs deserve to be loved and part of a family. Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to maintain a genetically diverse program while keeping all of our dogs in our home. We also can’t provide the one-on-one attention that all dogs deserve. This is why our Guardian Home Program is so important.

Becoming a Guardian Home gives you the opportunity to have one of our puppies or young adults as a family pet at no cost, while he or she

Aussiedoodle

remains in our program for up to 4 litters or the age of 5 for females & up to the age of 6 for males. WestPenn Doodles LLC will retain ALL rights to the dog. Once retired, he/she will be neutered/spayed at our expense and will get to retire with his or her guardian family.

As a Guardian Home, you will be required to pay for the everyday expenses of owning a dog including annual exams, vaccines, food, etc. We will pay for all breeding-related costs including health testing, progesterone testing, breeding related x-rays, spay/neuter etc.

Becoming a Guardian Home is not for everyone. You MUST be willing and able to follow these requirements:

  1. Live within 1-2 hours of the Pittsburgh area

  2. Have previous experience with dogs

  3. Be willing to train the dog basic commands such as sit, stay, lay down, and leave it

  4. Be willing to socialize puppies.

  5. He/She must be an indoor pet

  6. All other dogs in the home must be fixed if they are of the opposite sex

  7. Be willing to let us visit your home and be willing to have the dog visit with us

  8. Send a copy of all vet visits to us, notify us of any serious illness or accident

  9. If you are a guardian of a female dog, you must drop her off for 1-2 weeks during her heat to be bred. Then drop her back off with us 1 week prior to her due date. She will remain with us until the puppies are weaned.

  10. If you are a guardian of a male dog, you must be willing to drop him off for 3-5 days for breeding, unless we arrange plans for us to pick him up.

  11. You must be willing and able to communicate with us about scheduling testing, mating, heat cycle, whelping, and anything else related to breeding.
